Summer disconnection to connect

I was so pleased to discover a few new books these past few months, that lead me to new authors that I enjoyed reading.  I don’t know about you but when I discover something new I go research more about the person or subject. Do you do that?

Connected like we are today, two of the authors that I discovered from my local library led me to see what they share on social media or other platforms.  Actually, what I love about the two authors is they found different ways to connect to their audience without social media.

But that’s not the point of my newsletter, or is it?  Hum!  I’ll let you be the judge of that.

Are you enjoying your summer to completely disconnect from schedules and “have to’s”?

Are you able to not have a schedule? Maybe?  Sometimes?

One of the authors sends out a weekly newsletter and I was pleased to read how summer months are meant to “unschool” as he puts it.  To enjoy your own neighbourhood, stop by your local library and check out what is being offered in your community. To not follow a schedule and to not bombard your kids with a million activities, to not plan, plan, plan.  Though some planning is good sometimes, are you able to not plan and just live?

I was pleased and shocked at the same time when I read this “unschooling”.  And I knew right there and then that this author was my kind of peep.  I also knew the other author was my kind of peep when she shared how she has been disconnecting from social media.

Interesting how people are seriously connected to social media yet, there’s a lot of talk to DISconnect.

It’s time to slow down and enjoy people.  Yes, disconnect from social and live your life, not someone else’s. Social was meant to share, not to live vicariously through someone else. And definitely, not to burn out people who want to build a business.  But it is burning people out, unfortunately.

People are not stopping and burning out.  And so I invite you to think about your life and ask yourself is there balance in my life?

Am I enjoying my life?

Enjoying your life doesn’t mean quitting your job… or maybe.  It simply means to enjoy what makes you happy. And it doesn’t have to be BIG to enjoy life and it doesn’t have to take a lot of time to practice the present moment and enjoy it.  Some days it’s simple and short and other days it takes up more time.  The time you needed. Embrace it for what it is.

Inspired by Austin Kleon and Flora Bowley who share their passion outside social media.  I am happy to see that they share similar messages such as “unschooling” and disconnecting from social media, first of all, they have a much bigger audience than I do.  So yay, for having a similar message to share with the world by slowing down and enjoying the here and now. But I also liked the fact that they found another way to connect with their audience.  Why?  Because I feel there is a better, deeper connection.

How’s that?

Well, I receive their newsletter once a week.  But you may say, “But Mel, I get so many emails I don’t have time”  Ok, well, I may delete close to 60 emails a day.  And after a while, if I feel that I don’t take time to read these emails because it doesn’t resonate with me at that moment in time, I unsubscribe.  These people aren’t going anywhere.  If I miss them I can return and I am sure they will be happy to see me come back.  And most emails I delete are big corporation emails.  So, when it comes from an individual that I seek out.  I take time to read them or hear or watch them.

So, the emails I do read, I take time to read.  It’s amazing the stuff that people will share in a good newsletter.  They took time to think of a topic and put it together and then share it.  I appreciate that and so I take the time to read it.  Has it happened to not take the time.  Hell yes!  But when I do, I discover even more. It puts me in that present moment state.  But my point is more than a lesson on emails and what to read.

Like Flora, an American artist, and author.  I picked her book up at my library, found her website and am now part of her FLOW community on a separate app.  We are just a few people and the connections are much deeper. Yes, I paid.  But some communities that I have found are free.  Usually larger groups but not always bad however it lacks that intimacy.  But all options are available, which is great.

So back to throwing the towel to schedules…. Does that make you nervous when you read that?

It’s time to live in the present moment. Not fly by life.  It’s time to do things that make you happy and if you feel “FEAR” or “PROCRASTINATION”  words I hear from my clients a lot, it’s time to tell yourself you are doing this for you.  And guess what?  You don’t have to share it with anybody if you don’t want to.

That may be a big factor in your fear, of having to share.

Fear of judgment or perfectionism, from others and even yourself.  Or maybe you fear reactions because your ego seeks validation and love.

And so that fear takes over and you once again don’t authorize yourself to do things that bring you joy.  Time to stop scrolling through one reel after another and time to just be, be in your life. To love yourself and allow yourself to be.

I’ve been a strong advocate of living life that resonates with you and questioning yourself when things don’t seem to be aligned with your values, surrounding, beliefs and such. To make the necessary changes to bring joy and calm into your life.

As you may or may not know, I am still a flight attendant (24 years now) with a great schedule now that I have seniority which allows me to continue my practice as a Neuro-linguistic counsellor and fill my soul that loves to explore and discover new things.  During the winter months, I assist as a supervisor at the school where I studied to evaluate new students who graduate from each module and into their final stage.  I have two boys and a husband. Yes, it has to be mentioned as they are a big part of my life and I like to spend time with them. I like to move, bike, walk… And to nourish the creative side I draw, write, and paint on a daily basis.  Sometimes I do this for 10 minutes, sometimes hours.  But I do this to align myself, to feel calm, to feed my creativity, to feel alive, to feel like I am doing something then just work or tending to my family.  But mostly this helps tremendously to connect to the present moment.

I hear a lot of BE IN THE PRESENT MOMENT, I PRACTICE THE PRESENT MOMENT.  To be in the here and now is simply by being it, in it.  When you feel calm and feel like it isn’t a chore, and you are able to sit with your cup of tea by paying attention to your surroundings naturally, like when you are on vacation but you actually do it daily at home. You are in it.  You are not saying it, you are living it.

And if you are having trouble living it then I invite you to contact me to start your coaching sessions.

Maybe you have seen a decline in social posts on my part.  And that’s because, after years of being in business, I know I can have a successful business without having to be on social media all the time. Because I do have a successful business because I have a successful life.  My life is well-balanced, peaceful and calm even when there’s turmoil.  I just have the tools now to deal with rough waters.

And my dream is to see and hear people who feel their own successful life, humbly. Because I believe if you really want to feel at peace it can happen I’ve seen many clients reach peace and live life.  So I invite you to find your happiness 😊

During an accompaniment with a client, I bring a safe environment to offer an expansion of the mind.  Respecting the client’s evolution I ask questions to contribute to their solutions towards a goal they may have difficulty reaching.    Often, clients, humans, tell themselves stories from past experiences, and emotions that may have caused pain and this keeps them from moving forward with reaching their goals.  Often, once the problem has been addressed, the subconscious mind offers clues and solutions to the conscious mind.

The client often feels signs of release.  Which results in time to bring peace, harmony and happiness in their lives.
